Pablo Picasso was born on octuber 25 1881 in malaga andalunsia he failed to draw breath until a resourceful uncle blew cigar smoke into his nostrils pablo was the first born child of relatively middle class parents Maria picasso lopez and Jose ruiz blasco a painter and aficionado of the bullfight both sides of the family traced aristocratic lineage but by the time pablo came along any grandeur had faded and his father earned a modest living teaching drawing at malaga s art school lola the elder of pablo y two sirters was born in 1884 and conchita in 1887 pablo was devoted to his younger sister whose death at the age of seven apparently traumatized him and made him sharply aware of his own mortality.
